The Kuju Mountains have always been a part of life for the people of Kuju, constantly breathing within their daily existence. They have always gauged the weather and the season by looking at the mountains—for instance, thinking, “It will rain in the afternoon,” or “It’s cold because the mountain is white.” We want people to feel this magnificent nature and the life of the people of Kuju. Following the path of “THE FIRST” as a single malt from Kuju Distillery, we express the fleeting moments of the changing seasons and the images evoked by the corresponding items under the theme of “Kuju no Sora.”

The Late Summer When the Scent of Autumn Has Just Begun to Drift, Around the Time the Sun Is Starting to Set

The first release, “sora 2025,” captures “the late summer when the scent of autumn has just begun to drift, around the time the sun is starting to set.” According to the blender, Takeshi, the impression is “a somewhat dry orange.” He explained, “While ‘THE FIRST’ had strong elements of ‘green’ and ‘yellow,’ this blend’s more ripened fruitiness and the sun-drenched, earthy aroma within the peated malt reminded me of ‘orange.'” Therefore, the color of the sky is expressed as a gradient where the lingering green of summer intersects with the orange of early autumn. The design also follows “THE FIRST,” maintaining a sense of unity by utilizing the Kuju mountains depicted on the label.

A Richer Depth Brought by Carefully Selected Casks

This single malt is a careful blend of multiple matured whiskies, including peated malt. It is characterized by a prominent and vibrant fruity aroma of ripened fruits at the forefront, followed by an expansive, layered peat smoke that emerges afterward. While retaining the complex and rich characteristics of the original spirit, we finished it to allow enjoyment of an even more multi-layered fruitiness.
