Our “Small Batch” series is a limited-edition single malt collection, crafted from a select few casks to showcase a deeper level of artistry and character than our core releases. While our previous expressions were available in larger quantities, this series focuses on a minimal selection of barrels to highlight the core essence of Kuju while pushing its boundaries.
“My goal for this series is to honor the shared DNA of our spirit while delivering a more pronounced, distinctive personality,” says our blender. “I want you to discover a side of Kuju you haven’t seen before.” We invite you to fully immerse yourself in these bold, meticulously curated expressions of the Kuju spirit.
It all started with “using sherry casks”
For Small Batch 01, I selected and blended whiskies matured primarily in sherry casks. My main focus during the blending process was how to let Kuju’s signature character shine through the powerful influence of the sherry wood. You will find a consistent, concentrated sweetness from the nose to the palate, seamlessly interwoven with the complex flavors of the spirit to create a truly voluminous mouthfeel. As the whisky opens up, it reveals a rich, viscous, and lingering finish. I invite you to savor it neat and take your time to experience its evolution.

For this limited small batch, we began with a selection of exceptional sherry casks, building the blend’s foundation from there. My primary focus was to ensure Kuju’s signature character remained distinct, even alongside the bold influence of the sherry wood. The final composition leads with sherry casks, balanced by a touch of bourbon cask and other varieties. The result is a rich, full-bodied profile that evolves beautifully in the glass. We invite you to enjoy it neat and take your time to savor its transformation.

「スモールバッチ」とは、厳選した少数の樽のみを使用することで多くの樽を使用する通常のシングルモルト以上に造り手としてのこだわりや個性を楽しめる少量限定生産のシングルモルトです。
「これまでリリースしてきたアイテムはある程度の本数がありましたが、「スモールバッチ」は選び抜いた少量の樽の原酒を使用することで、より久住の原酒が持つ共通する個性を大切にしつつ、より際立った個性をお届けするシリーズです。「久住にこんな個性もあるんだ」と新しい一面に出会っていただきたいと思っています。より際立って感じられる久住の原酒の個性を存分にお楽しみください。
メインにシェリー樽の原酒を使うことからスタート
今回の「スモールバッチ01」は、シェリーカスクを主体に選び抜いた原酒をブレンドしました。
「樽のニュアンスが強いシェリーカスクの中で、どうすれば久住の個性を出せるのかを意識した」とブレンダーの武石は語ります。

今回のスモールバッチは、少量ですがいいシェリー樽があったので、そこから肉付けしていきました。ブレンドにあたり樽のニュアンスの強いシェリー樽の中でどうすれば久住の個性を出せるのかという点は意識しました。樽の構成は、シェリー樽に少量のバーボン樽などをブレンド。ボリューミーな所が出ているので、その分、時間によって変化していきます。ぜひ時間をかけてストレートでゆっくりお楽しみください。
